The name of a persons, place,or thing . 

KINDS OF NOUNS:

1. COMMON NOUN

2. PROPER NOUNS

3. COLLECTIVE NOUNS

4. MATERIAL NOUNS

5. ABSTRACT NOUNS

1.COMMON NOUNS:

A common noun is the name of an ordinary person ,plac thing ,animal or event,etc.

Example:

• women

•  girl

• furniture

• plumber

• doctor

• tools

• villages

• country

etc.

2. PROPER NOUNS:

It is the special name of a particular person or place.

Example:

• Mumbai

• Poonam

• Delhi

• Red Fort

ect.

3. COLLECTIVE NOUNS:

It is a noun that stands for a group of people or thing considered as one unit.

Example:

• BUNCH

• TEAM

• CLASS

• ARMY

• PACK 

• HERD etc.

4. MATERIAL NOUNS:

It is the name of something that stands for the matter or substance using things are made with.

Example

•  silver

• gold

• flour

• cotton etc. 

5. ABSTRACT NOUNS

It is the name of something that we cannot see or touch, but we can think of it.

Example:

• HONESTY

• POLICY

• TRUTH

• PITYJOY

• PAIN

• SLEEP

• BRAVERY

• HEALTH

ECT.

 

NOUN NUMBER:

1.SINGULAR NOUNS:

A noun that denotes one person or thing is said to be in the singular number.

Examples:

chair, box, baby, wife, hero, man, child.

2.PLURAL NOUNS:

A noun that denotes more than one person or thing is said to be in the plural number.

Examples:

chairs, boxes, babies , boys, wives, heroes, men, children.

COUNTABLE AND UNCOUNTABLE NOUNS

UNCOUNTABLE NOUNS:

These are not used in the plural .

MEAT, DUST, DIRT, FURNITURE, SILVER, WATER,GRAIN, etc These should be used only in the singular form.

Examples:

• The floors are covered with dust.

• They gave me all their furniture.

• All the rings were made of gold.

1. MASCULINE GENDER:

The names of males are known as Masculine Gender

Example:

• BOY

• MAN

• HUSBAND

2. FEMININE GENDER:

The names of females are known as Feminine Gender.

Example:

• GIRL WOMAN

• WIFE

• RANI etc.

3. COMMON GENDER:

The names of those that can be either male or female are known as Common Gender.

Example:

• friend

•  student

• doctor

• teacher etc.

4. NEUTER GENDER:

The things that are neither male nor female are known as Neuter Gender.

Example:

• chair

• computer

• bicycle

• trees etc.
